365mc, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and MonitCell Join Forces: Next-Generation Artificial Skin Made from Human Fat
365mc
365mc has joined Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and MonitCell in a research partnership that turns fat collected during liposuction into extracellular matrix material — the building block for artificial skin and organoids that could advance skin regeneration and wound healing research.
Hello, this is LipoManiac 365.
365mc is teaming up with Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and MonitCell to develop a next-generation artificial skin model built from human fat.
On August 13, the three organizations signed a joint research agreement for the development of a next-generation artificial skin model based on human adipose-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) at 365mc ALL NEW Gangnam Clinic.
Under the agreement, 365mc supplies human fat collected during liposuction for research purposes, and MonitCell processes it into an ECM material that can be used in skin research. ECM acts much like a scaffold, holding cells in place and supporting them as they grow.
Seoul National University Bundang Hospital will use that material to create artificial skin and organoids closely resembling real skin, and will examine whether they can serve as a new model for skin research.
Adipose-derived ECM contains collagen, elastin and other key components of skin tissue, which gives it strong potential as a research material.
The timing is significant as well: a recent amendment to the Wastes Control Act has made research use of human fat possible, opening up new applications for tissue that was previously discarded.
Through this collaboration, the three organizations plan to develop research models that closely mirror real skin and to verify their potential for use in skin regeneration and wound healing research.
Results may vary from person to person.
